The University Council has delegated, to various officers, its authority to commit funds and incur expenditure.

Specific financial delegations

The following Committee of Council or officer of the University is delegated the authority to commit or incur expenditure not exceeding the amounts indicated below for any single transaction, that is, for the total of each individual order or commitment.

Such delegation is limited to those areas and accounts for which the designated officer has responsibility and the commitment or expenditure must be in accordance with the purposes for which the funds were allocated and University accounting policy and personnel policies.

For the payment of recurring services and utilities and those payments that are required by legislation, the following officers are delegated to approve payment for the nominated University purposes and up to the prescribed limits.

Persons holding this delegation will include all Executive Deans and Deans and the following Heads of Offices:

  • Director, Office of Facilities Management
  • Director, Human Resources
  • Director, Macquarie International
  • Director, Information and Technical Services
  • University Librarian
  • Academic Registrar

Delegation schedule 2 - $50,000

Director, Learning and Teaching Centre.

Persons with the following position may hold this delegation on the nomination of the Dean.

  • Head of Department
  • Faculty General Managers

Delegation schedule 3 - $30,000

Persons with the following positions may hold this delegation on the nomination of the Dean or Head of Office and can include:

  • Division and Office Executive officers and managers
  • Directors of University Centres
  • Deputy Registrar
  • Deputy Directors of Offices
  • Assistant Directors of Offices
  • Assistant Registrars
  • Other Managers (HEW10)

Delegation schedule 4 - $10,000

Persons with the following positions may hold this delegation on the nomination of the Dean, Head of Office or University Centre and can include:

  • Administrative officers in charge of administrative services
  • Building officers within the Office of Facilities Management
  • Managers in charge of administrative or technical sections

Delegation schedule 5 - $1,000

Persons with the following positions may hold this delegation on the nomination of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Head of Division, Office or University Centre:

  • Chairperson of special committees
  • Specialist personnel
  • Clerical staff within Divisions, Offices and University Centres.

Investment of funds

The Finance and Facilities Committee of Council has authority to determine University policy on the Investment of Funds.

The following officers are delegated to approve the investment of funds that are surplus to current requirements not exceeding the amounts below for any single transaction.
